There are many types of leather and each type has a unique property. For example, patent leather has a high gloss finish, shagreen is light and grainy, nappa is extremely soft and supple, while suede is fuzzy on both sides. Now, sewing nappa is not the same as stitching the suede. Even within leather object, the story is a little complicated. Certain parts may need a tight weave while the waistbands, collars and cuff edges may need topstitching.
